Application counts are approximate — estimated from the tentative bidding data published by the BSE & NSE during the bidding window. They are indicative, not exact, and may differ from the final figures confirmed by the registrar.

What is IPO subscription status?

IPO subscription status shows how many times a public issue has been applied for during its bidding window, compared with the number of shares on offer. It is expressed as a multiple — for example, "3.5x" means investors collectively bid for 3.5 times the shares available. When demand exceeds supply the issue is oversubscribed; when it falls short it is undersubscribed. Investors apply through either exchange, and the figures shown here combine bids from both the BSE and the NSE.

Subscription is reported separately for each investor category, because each has its own reserved portion of the issue and its own allotment rules. Tracking the category split through the day shows where demand is strongest and how it is building toward the close.

Investor categories explained

Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIB)

QIBs are large institutional investors — mutual funds, banks, insurance companies and foreign institutional investors. Their portion is typically the largest in a mainboard issue, and strong QIB demand is often read as a sign of institutional confidence. A subset of the QIB portion may be allotted to anchor investors a day before the issue opens.

Non-Institutional Investors (NII / HNI)

NIIs are high-net-worth individuals and corporate bodies applying for more than ₹2 lakh. The category is split into Big NII (bNII) for applications above ₹10 lakh and Small NII (sNII) for applications between ₹2 lakh and ₹10 lakh, each with its own reserved share.

Retail and SME Individual Investors

In mainboard IPOs, Retail Individual Investors apply for up to ₹2 lakh, and oversubscribed retail allotment is generally decided by computerised lottery. Under the current SME framework, the retail category is replaced by the Individual Investor category, with a minimum application of two lots above ₹2 lakh. SME allotment follows the applicable category and exchange rules.

Employee & shareholder categories

Some issues reserve a portion for company employees or existing shareholders, often at a small discount. These appear as separate rows when applicable.

How to read "X times subscribed"

The "Times" figure is the number of shares applied for divided by the number of shares offered in that category. A total of "10x" means ten times more demand than supply. Subscription tends to be back-loaded: QIB and NII bids often arrive in the final hours of the last day, so an issue that looks quiet on Day 1 can close heavily oversubscribed. Reading the category split — rather than the headline number alone — gives a clearer picture of who is driving demand.

How to check live IPO subscription status

You can track live subscription in three ways:

  1. On IPO Ji: this page consolidates live, category-wise subscription for every open mainboard and SME IPO, refreshed through the bidding day.
  2. On the exchange websites: the BSE and NSE publish bid details for each open issue under their public-issue sections.
  3. On your broker's platform: most brokers display the latest subscription figures alongside the IPO application window.

What subscription tells you about allotment and listing

Subscription is one indicator of demand. The more an issue is oversubscribed, the lower each applicant's chance of receiving an allotment. Mainboard retail and SME Individual Investor categories follow their applicable allotment and exchange rules. Strong demand reflects positive sentiment but does not guarantee listing gains, just as weak demand does not guarantee a discount. Final share performance also depends on the company's fundamentals, its sector and overall market conditions.

How IPO Ji sources & updates this data

  • Source: subscription figures are compiled from the official BSE and NSE bid-detail feeds for each public issue.
  • Update cadence: figures are refreshed through the bidding day. The "Last updated" timestamp on the page reflects the most recent refresh; subscription typically rises sharply in the final hours of the last day.
  • What "X times" means: the number of shares applied for divided by the shares offered in that category — for example, "3.5x" means investors bid for 3.5 times the shares available.
  • Categories: QIB (institutions), NII/HNI, Mainboard Retail (up to ₹2 lakh), and SME Individual Investors (minimum two lots above ₹2 lakh), each with its applicable reserved portion and allotment rules.
  • Accuracy note: values can change in real time and may differ briefly during exchange update windows; category-wise numbers are finalised after the issue closes. For the definitive record, refer to the BSE and NSE websites.

IPO subscription status: frequently asked questions

IPO subscription status is the number of times a public issue has been applied for, compared with the shares on offer, during its bidding window. It is shown as a multiple — for example, 4x means investors bid for four times the available shares.

Oversubscription means demand exceeds the shares on offer — a subscription figure above 1x. When this happens, applicants are not guaranteed full allotment; allocation follows the applicable investor-category and exchange rules.

QIB covers qualified institutions, while NII covers non-institutional applicants. Mainboard retail covers individual applications up to ₹2 lakh. Under the current SME framework, the retail category is replaced by Individual Investor, with a minimum application of two lots above ₹2 lakh. Each category is reported separately.

Not necessarily. High subscription reflects strong demand and positive sentiment, but listing performance also depends on company fundamentals, sector trends and market conditions. Subscription is an indicator, not a guarantee.

The figures are sourced from the BSE and NSE and refreshed through the bidding day. The "Last updated" timestamp on the page shows the most recent refresh.

Institutional (QIB) and large non-institutional (NII) investors often place bids in the final hours of the last day. As a result, an issue can move from lightly to heavily subscribed within the closing window.

If a mainboard issue does not reach the minimum subscription required under SEBI regulations, the issue can be withdrawn and application money refunded. SME issues have their own minimum-subscription rules.

Category eligibility depends on whether the IPO is mainboard or SME and on the application size. Applicants should use only the category for which their bid qualifies and must not submit duplicate applications under the same PAN.
